Shared Memory. Historical Awareness of 20th Century for the Future

A Czech-German youth meeting


We invite you to join us in a Czech-German youth meeting, which focuses on better understanding of common European history. You will have an opportunity to join 13 young people from the Czech Republic and 13 from Germany. Together we will seek answers to these questions:

  • What were the consequences of the violation of human dignity in the 20 century
  • in the context of National Socialism and the Communist period of Czechoslovakia
  • and the German Democratic Republic (GDR)?
  • Why did people risk their lives and freedom in the struggle for democracy and human rights?
  • What responsibility do we have today to remember these parts of history?
  • Is it possible to learn from history?

Who can participate?

13 young people from the Czech Republic and 13 young people from Germany aged 15 to 19

Takes place: May 17–22, 2026, in Weimar / Memorial of KZ Buchenwald / Erfurt
