Our Statement on the Sudeten German Day in Brno

Since its founding in 1998, Antikomplex – movement against xenophobia has sought to improve relations between Czechs and Germans through an open and critical reflection on our shared history. This shared history encompasses Czechs, Germans, Jews, Roma, and many other groups that have lived in what is now the Czech Republic. We believe that it is precisely through dialogue with our past and with other perspectives on it that we can discover ways to better communicate and understand one another in the present. Conversation flows best when people meet face-to-face.

For many decades, the Sudeten German Day has served as such a meeting place and an opportunity for dialogue. Antikomplex spoke out in favor of holding it in the Czech Republic many years ago, and therefore now fully supports its taking place in Brno through its own participation.

We know that facing one’s own past is often not easy. It is easier in the company of people who have the will and willingness to do so and who support one another in this endeavor. Thanks to Meeting Brno, we will be in such company from May 22–24, 2026.
